Are You Ready For Change?

Are You Ready For Change?

So, you've been thinking about making a change in your life. Maybe it's getting sober, eating healthier, hitting the gym - or maybe it's all of the above! But before you dive headfirst into the deep end of change, it might be helpful to understand the stages of change model.

What is this "Stages of Change" Model Anyway?

The stages of change model or transtheoretical model was developed by James Prochaska and Carlo Di Clemente (some pretty smart psychology guys). Picture this: change is like a rollercoaster ride, with ups, downs, twists, and turns. The stages of change model breaks down this wild ride into six stages: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination. It's like a roadmap for your journey to a better you!

Are You in the Precontemplation Stage?

Are you in the precontemplation stage? This is the stage where you're not even thinking about change. You're chilling on the couch, munching on chips, and thinking, "Change? Nah, not for me." But hey, recognizing that you might need a change is the first step!

Have You Moved on to Contemplation?

Contemplation is like dipping your toes in the water. You're starting to think, "Hmm, maybe I should make a change." You're weighing the pros and cons, considering your options, and maybe even googling "how to get six pack abs." You're on the brink of something big!

Ready for Preparation?

Preparation is where the rubber meets the road. You're making a plan, setting goals, and getting ready to take action. It's like getting your gear ready before a big journey - you're gearing up for success!

Time for Action!

Action is where the magic happens. You're putting your plan into motion, taking those first steps towards change. It's like finally pressing play on that workout video you've been eyeing for weeks. You're in the zone!

Are You in the Maintenance Stage?

Congratulations, you've made it to the maintenance stage! You're not just changing, you're sticking with it. You're building new habits, staying on track, and becoming the best version of yourself. You're crushing it!

Termination (Or What I Call "Freedom")

The termination stage is when this change is so well established that you are absolutely sure you will not return to your old ways - freedom. In a lot of courses and programs you'll see they like to leave this stage out because relapse at some point is much more common than reaching this level of change. I like to include it because I believe I've reached that point in my own journey, and I believe anyone can do the same if they stay consistent and put effort in all the right places.

So, where do you think you are on the stages of change model? Are you still lounging in precontemplation, or are you already rocking the maintenance stage like a boss? Remember, change is a journey, not a sprint. Setbacks can and will happen. Embrace the process, stay positive, and keep moving forward. You've got this!
